Editing Transcript
How to edit Transcript within the Synchronizer
In general it is assumed that you already have the polished transcript to show.
Nevertheless you might wish to slightly edit or realign transcript when you synchronize
it with other parts of your presentation. Transcript View has a set of functions,
which can help you here.
IMPORTANT NOTICE You can see a blinking cursor in the Transcript View.
It is NOT a usual caret cursor as you have in text editors. You can't move it by
keyboard, it can be moved only by mouse. This "dummy caret" indicates the active
position, where all possible editing commands will be applied to. So, every
editing operation begins from the cursor positioning. Do not forget to position
it properly before editing functions applying using the popup or main menu.
The drag&drop operations move this caret automatically, so you don't need to
move it before dropping an item into the Transcript View. Just drop an item
into the paragraph of text (not into a whitespace or a marker!) and the
caret will be moved immediately to the dropping point.
Now let's take a look at the popup menu of the Transcript View. All the same functions
are duplicated in the Edit submenu of the FlashPresenter's main menu.
Let's go across menu items from top to bottom:
1. General Commands.
Undo - Let's you cancel the last editing
operation and return the view into previous state.
Cut - Cuts off the selection.
Copy - Copies the selection into clipboard.
Paste - Puts the clipboard content into the Transcript View.
Edit Paragraph - Opens the popup text editor,
where you can update the text of current paragraph.
2. Insertion Commands.
Insert Paragraph Break - Splits a text
into two paragraphs. You can use backward operation (see below) to join text if there are
no synchronization markers set between these paragraphs.
Insert Synchronization Line - Inserts a special
splitter, invisible in your final presentation. You can use it to assign a time value when
the text below this splitter will appear. It is very useful if you have a big piece of text
without additional items (topics, slides, etc.) associated with several its parts.
Another possible reason to insert such synchronization line is to associate it with a quiz.
Quiz usually is inserted as a "splitter" between two topics, each of which has its own
slides, Contents references, links, etc. Quiz can't be assigned to the topic,
already having slides. Thus the invisible synchronization line is the only solution.
Insert Time Marker - Inserts a new or
updates an existing Time Marker. All other media parts (topics, slides, quizzes,
etc.) may be assigned to a paragraph of transcript only after the time marker insertion.
Insert Topic - Associates a topic from the Contents View.
You must select the Contents item to insert before this command usage. Also please note,
that each Contents item can be assigned only once. So, the old assignment is lost if you reassign
the same Contents item to the new Transcript point. Undo operation takes two steps in this case:
the first undo step restores the "new" Contents item location to its previous state and the second
one restores the "old" location of the Contents item reference.
Insert Slide - associates a Slide with the Transcript paragraph.
You must select the Slides List item first to use this command. Please remember that
Slide can't be assigned to a paragraph (or synchronizing line) already having a
Quiz, associated with it. This is because Slides and Quizzes are shown in the same window.
Insert Link - Associates a Links Group with the Transcript paragraph.
You must select a Links Group within the Links View to use this function.
Insert Resource - Associate Resources Group with
the Transcript paragraph. You must select a Resources Group within the Resources View
to use this function.
Insert Quiz - Associate Quiz with
the Transcript. You must select a Quiz within the Quizzes View to use this function.
3. Deletion Commands.
Delete Paragraph Break - Joins two
paragraphs of the text. You can't use this function if there are some markers,
associate with the second paragraph.
Delete Synchronization Line - Deletes
the Synchronization Line.
Delete Time Marker - Deletes Time Marker
and all other markes (if any), associated with it.
Delete Topic - Deletes Contents link,
associated with the Time Marker.
Delete Slide - Deletes Slide link,
associated with the Time Marker.
Delete Link - Deletes Link Group reference,
associated with the Time Marker.
Delete Resource - Deletes Resources Group reference,
associated with the Time Marker.
Delete Quiz - Deletes Quiz reference,
associated with the Time Marker.
